Carbon Monoxide kills people every year and they dont even know that it is coming. This odourless, colourless gas gives the homeowner no warning signs at all. There are simple steps that you can take to avoid meeting Carbon Monoxide. You can: Fit Detection Equipment:The equipment comes in the form of a detector, already made up and all you need to do is fit it. They can be purchased in all superstores today. Put them all around the house, on every floor if you feel like it, especially in bedrooms and in the area where the boiler or flue is. These detectors are a must have your appliance is an open flue or solid fuel burner. There is no need fit a detector right above or next to a boiler, fire or cooker, as they are capable of emitting just enough carbon monoxide not to be dangerous, but to give a false alarm as they fire up.Where To Fit:The detector should be fitted at 150mm lower than the ceiling, (you can go higher than this), however lower is not a great idea. They should also be kept higher than windows or doors that can open. They should sit between 1.8M and 4.5M from a likely source such as the cooker for example, as they can generate a false alarm. NEVER fit in a very humid area like a bathroom because of the water or steam damage that can occur. A Clapham Plumber can fit detectors and see the danger signs. Note: You can clean a detector with warm soapy water but do not use a chemical cleaning solution or agent.Flame in The Boiler:Your boiler flame should, burn blue with a very fine inner and outer core. This can be observed through a viewing port on the boiler. If the flame flickers and is orange or yellow, then the combustion is not right and it needs attention. Soot coming from the boiler is a warning sign. Clapham Plumbers are gas safe. Symptoms of Poisoning:These symptoms if you are lucky can be spotted but you must be very sharp. Therefore, should you or anyone in the home feel, sudden tiredness, dizziness and nausea, that is out of character, shut the boiler down immediately and call a gas safe engineer at once.
