TheTap:The domestic tap gives a great clue as to the true age of a plumbing system. Should they fail to close proper and just drip all the time, leaving brown stains in its wake, then, they need to be changed for new ones. Clapham Plumbers are all skilled.Water Storage Cylinder:Take a good look at this cylinder, it is usually fitted in the loft space. It will be constructed from copper and have an insulated cover of either foam or fiberglass. Anything made from lead, galvanized steel or asbestos are dangerous to health hazard and should be replaced by a professional plumber as soon as possible.Ballcock:If you are in the loft, inspect the float valve that is fitted inside the cold-water storage cylinder. If the ball has dents and is of green colour, it is copper. Copper floats havent been used for years, so if you have one it needs to be changed. Main Stop Cock:This valve is usually fitted outside a property. The valve would usually sit in the pavement by a front gate, maybe or in the garden near to the road. It is always below ground level, and has a cast iron lid with a hinge. Interior Pipes:Look closely at the condition of the pipes in your house, especially the cold water supply pipes. Look underneath the sink and bath, inside cupboards, up in the loft space, and the garage (if you have one). If they have a green tinge on them, this means a change is very close.Lead Piping:Any old lead pipes in your domestic plumbing system need to be replaced as soon as is humanly possible. Most local authorities will give you a grant to assist with the cost of the upgrade. A Clapham Plumber will find and replace these.Main Interior Stopcock:Find the main stopcock inside the house. It should be located under the sink in the kitchen, but of course could be anywhere. Note where it is and make sure that it is working.
